Marine Wind Generator – What
Every Boater Needs
Electricity produced by a
marine wind generator can be used directly or it can be stored in
batteries for use at another time. Wind generators can be
used alone, or they may be used as part of a hybrid system, in
which their output is combined with that of solar panels, and /or a
fossil fuel generator. Hybrid systems are especially useful
for winter backup of home systems where cloudy weather and windy
conditions occur simultaneously.
The most important decision when
considering a marine wind generator is wind spead.
A general rule
is the average wind speed needs to be 10mph or greater for
the wind generator to be cost effective. If not, I recommend
you look into solar energy. If you are planning on using the
wind generator for marine use, wind speed should not be a
factor.
The use of a marine wind generator is
common in the boating industry although I would not rely on wind
power alone. The installation of marine solar panels is also a good
idea for the times where the correct wind speed is not
available.
